Royal Fireplaces and Private Jets: The UK Links in the New Epstein Files

Newly released documents from the US Justice Department have shed a stark light on how disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein “inveigled” his way into the heart of British high society.

From royal estates to 10 Downing Street, the files—released this weekend under the Epstein Files Transparency Act—provide a paper trail of how the paedophile financier cultivated influence across the Atlantic.1

The Sandringham Connection

One of the most striking revelations involves a photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (the former Prince Andrew) and Ghislaine Maxwell.2 By matching a fireplace in the background of a newly released image, forensics experts have confirmed the location as Sandringham, the King’s private country estate.3

While Andrew has “vigorously denied” any wrongdoing, the photo places Epstein’s circle in the most private of royal settings.4 Tellingly, reports confirm that Andrew has not been invited to the royal Christmas gathering at Sandringham this year.5

The “Luton Logs”: March 2001

Flight records included in the dump provide crucial corroboration for some of the most serious allegations against Epstein.6

  • 9 March 2001: Epstein’s private jet landed at Luton Airport.7
  • On board: Jeffrey Epstein (JE), Ghislaine Maxwell (GM), and Virginia Roberts (VR), his most famous accuser.8
  • The Following Day: This is when the infamous photo of Roberts (then 17), Andrew, and Maxwell is alleged to have been taken at Maxwell’s London townhouse.9

Politics and Power: The Blair Meeting

The files also confirm that Epstein’s reach extended into the highest levels of British government.

  • 15 May 2002: Flight logs show Epstein arriving at Luton again.10
  • 16 May 2002: Epstein met with then-Prime Minister Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street.11

The meeting was reportedly brokered by Peter Mandelson, the veteran Labour figure who was recently sacked as the UK’s Ambassador to the US due to the depth of his ties to Epstein.12 A spokesperson for Blair stated the meeting lasted less than 30 minutes and focused on “US and UK politics,” noting that Epstein’s crimes were unknown at the time.13

A “Social Networker” with a Dark Secret

The documents paint a picture of a man who used his wealth to gain proximity to power.14 Maxwell is pictured outside 10 Downing Street and touring the Churchill War Rooms with figures like Bill Clinton and Kevin Spacey (neither of whom are accused of any wrongdoing in the files).15

However, the files also reveal the darker side of this British link. Testimony from 2019 describes a victim who grew up in England and was recruited at age 17 before being taken to Epstein’s private Caribbean island.16
